2016 EQUINE & EQUINE EVENT LIVESTOCK HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

Please read thoroughly and carefully!

All Equine exhibitors (with the exception of the Draft Horse Hitch & Halter exhibitors) must go to the Equine Check-In Trailer to have Health Certificates (CVI) and Coggins papers checked.

Exhibitors who pre-register will pick up their tickets and parking passes for entry onto the grounds at the Check-In Trailer. Exhibitors who did not have to pre-register will also purchase all entry tickets and parking passes at the Check-In Trailer. No passes will be sold in the Horse Show Office.

Notice: Draft Horse Hitch & Halter exhibitors for the Classic Series Six Show will enter through Gate 3 off of Stolley Park Road, as in previous years.

The Check-In Trailer will be located on Stuhr Road, (east side) across from the Fairgrounds. Following your visit to the Check-In Trailer, you will proceed to Gate 8/9 (on Stuhr Road) for entry to the Fairgrounds. You will not be able to enter Gate 8/9 without a ticket, vehicle pass and having your Health Papers checked and stamped. The Check-In Trailer will open at 6:30 am daily, except on Monday, September 5, when it will open at 6:00 am.. Closing times will be posted on the StateFair.org website. If you arrive at the Check-In Trailer after it has closed, call 308- 289-6511 for an on-call vet. Pens will be set up for your horses until a vet arrives. Entry onto the Fairgrounds will not be allowed without a stamped CVI.

All owners, trainers, or exhibitors of equines, whether for exhibit or any type of demonstration or performance on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds, will be required to provide the Equine Veterinarian with the following paperwork.

1.) Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) - CVIs are valid for 30 days
*Please note: both IN-State and OUT-of-State Equines will require the same paperwork and testing.
NOTICE: CVI Health Papers MUST state the destination as the Nebraska State Fair

All animals exhibited must be accompanied by a CVI. All animals exhibited shall be individually identified on the CVI. CVIs must list the respective exhibition as consignee. CVI’s will be returned to exhibitors after a copy has been made at the Check-In Trailer.

You may not use Health Papers issued for another event or destination to gain entry onto The Nebraska State Fairgrounds. If Equine Health Papers do not state Nebraska State Fair as the destination, the Equine Veterinarian is required to issue you new, current Health Papers. The fees for the exam and issue of Health Papers will need to be paid immediately to examining veterinarian.

If no health certificate (CVI) is shown, exhibitors may go get a health certificate from their veterinarian or have the veterinarian on site issue new ones. All Veterinarian Fees are at the discretion of the veterinarian on duty and are required to be paid at the time of service. All exhibitors without correct Health Papers will be held at the Check-In Trailer.

2.) A negative test of EIA (coggins) within 365 days of entry for all horses.
Note: Foals under six months of age are exempt from EIA testing requirements only if they are not weaned If no Coggins papers are shown, exhibitors will be denied entry onto the Nebraska State Fairgrounds.

3.) NOTICE: “Due to the increase in EHV-1 (Rhino) cases, the Nebraska State Fair is requiring ALL horses that enter the grounds be vaccinated for EHV-1 no more than FOUR months (120 Days) prior to the start of the Fair. The date of vaccination needs to be written on the CVI. It is recommended that exhibition horses be vaccinated for Equine Influenza also.

4.) According to new USEF requirements, any horse competing in a USEF sanctioned event will be required to have Equine Influenza and Rhino vaccinations.

5.) Ringworm, Warts, and Abscesses Policy:

Animals that have active ringworm, visible warts, or abscesses, will not be allowed entry into the Nebraska State Fair for exhibition. The inspecting veterinarian may judge the ringworm to be inactive if the lesioned area is not encrusted and hair has begun regrowth in the area and so stated on the CVI. Animals with warts that are visible by a hands-off inspection will not be allowed to remain on the premises. Animals that have visible abscesses will not be allowed to exhibit and will not be allowed to remain on the premises.

6.) It is recommended that all equine be current on their vaccinations.

Under no circumstances may animals under quarantine be exhibited. Only animals not showing signs of infectious or contagious diseases will be allowed to show.

7.) Vesicular Stomatitis Virus:

Since the chances of the reoccurrence of Vesicular Stomatitis are rather high this year, please keep checking for updates on the State Fair website, www.statefair.org.

In the event that VS is detected in Nebraska or any other state, those animals being exhibited from those states or areas will be required to have a CVI issued within 48 hours of arriving at the Nebraska State Fair.

page1image42320 page1image42480 page1image42640 page1image42800 page1image42960 page1image43120 page1image43280

The CVI will also need a VS statement included. This CVI and subsequent VS statement will need to be issued for all equine event animals including horses, donkeys, cattle and goats that originated from a positive VS area.

8.) Rodeo Stock:

All animals will need to be individually identified on the CVI. This includes cattle, horses, goats, and bucking bulls. All animals from out of state will need to have official federal ID’s and be identified individually on the CVI. Please check with the Nebraska State Veterinarian’s office (402-471-2351) to see if any other requirements need to be addressed for import permits.

Cattle used for other events (i.e. team penning, sorting, cutting, etc.) will need to have a CVI but do not need to be individually identified if they move in and out as a group.

All goats entering the fairgrounds, regardless of being used for competition or practice, must have a CVI and an official USDA Scrapie ID tag, and be free of fungus. The CVI for goats must be issued within 15 days of the fair. If event animals are coming from a brand inspection area, please have all paperwork in order and with transporter.

REMINDER All Equine Exhibitors who have pre-ordered passes and exhibitor tickets will pick those up at the Check-In Trailer. You may also purchase tickets and parking passes at the Check-In Trailer at time of check in. There will be no admission to the Fairgrounds without a ticket or parking pass.

REMINDER: If Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) is detected in Nebraska or any other state, additional requirements may be put in place. Check the State Fair web site, www.statefair.org, for updates!

DOGS: Due to requirements of the liability insurance carrier and policy of all major livestock shows, NO dogs are allowed on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds, in parking lots or in buildings other than those for direct competition or service animals. All dogs must be on a leash. There shall be no loose or unattended dogs on the fairgrounds. No dogs will be permitted in the animal barns, in tie outs or on the Midway, except during authorized events and sanctioned dog shows. Dogs entered in Nebraska State Fair special performances or competitive events will be allowed on grounds or in buildings during performance or competition only.

Contestants WILL notify secretary of their willingness to participate in the

"Showcase of Champions"
