Neil Drake Memorial Bareback Award

Neil Drake was a past member of the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association in 2006 and 2007.

Due to financial reasons, Neil did not get to participate in high school rodeo during all of his high school years.  What opportunities he did have to compete, he was passionate about bareback riding and everything about rodeo life!

Neil passed away on January 26, 2014 of an undiagnosed rare genetic disorder.

Neil’s family and friends have established this award.

Bareback Riders Scholarship
The Neil Drake family established a memorial scholarship last year to promote the bareback riding event.  The scholarship is open the members of the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association and 8th grade members of the Nebraska Junior High Rodeo Association.  The winner of the scholarship will receive a new bareback riggin and their entry fees paid for the following rodeo season.
If the winner is a senior member, they would receive a $500 college scholarship.

The family has decided to move the deadline for applications to February 1, 2017, so that the riggin and scholarship or entry fee voucher can be presented at the State Finals. If you applied last year, please submit a new application.

Rowdy Moon was the first winner of the Neil Drake scholarship.  He is attending college at Mid-Plains Community College, in North Platte.
