Jim and Susan Wakefield have requested that the funds we are holding from the Brady Wakefield memorial be put into the Endowment Fund.  Jim & Susan Wakefield suggested that a banner be made that shares the information of the Endowment Fund.  This banner would hang in the arena along with the other state sponsor banners.  Von Svoboda moved that the NE HS Rodeo have a banner made advertising the Endowment Fund, seconded by Scott Hollenbeck.  Motion carried.

Tina Kessler informed the board about the Pay Pal account set up for entries.

Chad Johnston moved to accept the 3rd reading of the rodeo entry policy seconded by Mark Wray.  Motion carried.

RODEO ENTRY POLICY states that entries must be received by rodeo entry closing date.  Postmark will no longer be considered.  For further convenience a Pay Pal account will be established with all usage fees assessed to contestant.   Certified or registered mail requiring a signature will be assessed an administrative fee of $10 to be included with entry fees.

At the request of the Arthur High School Rodeo Committee, discussion was held on running two girl’s events at the same time.  The students present discussed their concerns with two girls events going on at the same time.  The student in this situation and any student that follows is effected by this order of events.  Von Svoboda moved to leave it our policy to not have two girls event at one time, seconded by Tricia Schaffer.  Motion carried.  Tina Kessler will notify the Arthur committee of this decision.

Tyler Oberlander and Destri Millsap, from Great Plains Health Sports Medicine, made a presentation to the board of director on services that they can offer to our contestants.  They currently have a contract to cover all of the college rodeos in this region; but, would very much like to attend as many high school rodeos that they can.  They would not take the place of the need for EMT coverage at a rodeo; but, would work together with the volunteer units.  Sonya suggested that each committee be informed of this service and that the host committee contact GPH about attending their rodeo.  There is no charge for this service other than at some locations housing might be needed for the sports therapist.

Discussion on the 2017-18 state finals bids.  Sonya Atkins moved to have the 2017-18 state finals in Hastings, NE, seconded by Mark Wray.  Motion carried.   News Channel Nebraska will carry the state finals on their cable channels and on their web page with no cost to the association.

Tricia Schaffer informed the board of the national rule changes that will be effective in 2017.  The national office will be awarding 7-$1,000 scholarships to our state for the 2016 Seniors.  A new sponsor program with Flying J and Pilot is now available to our membership which will give cents off a gallon of fuel.  Also, each state has the option of requesting up to $1,000 each year to be used for promotion within your state.  The national association’s raffle of a Weatherby gun and a Dodge pickup will be a 20/80 split for the 2016-2017 season.  Tickets sell for $10 each and the drawing is held at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Discussion was held on the State Fair Rodeo held in Grand Island.  The State Fair rodeo has been voted rodeo of the year by the students.   The rodeo this year was not very well organized and ran very long with the additional college students.  Jana Jensen suggested just having a HS Rodeo or just have a show case event.  Only $4,500 of the $15,000 scholarship money has been received and it was paid out to the college students.

Von Svoboda moved to pay bills of the purchase of a new banner box and the expenses for Tricia Schaffer to attend the mid-winter meeting, seconded by Buddy Darnell.  Motion carried.

Next meeting will be held on Friday, May 27 @ 7:00 PM in Thedford after the Stapleton rodeo.
