Nebraska High School Rodeo Association Board of Directors Meeting

Conference Call  -- February 19, 2014

The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association Board of Directors conference call was called to order by President, Jim Wakefield.  Directors present include:  Jess Harwager, Von Svoboda, Sonya Atkins, Jay Hollenbeck, Cody Haun, Bump Kraeger, Ken Real, Justin Welsh, and Greg Petska

National Director Tricia Schaffer.  

Secretary’s Becky Dailey and Tina Kessler.

Directors absent Patty Finney and Jana Jensen.  

Student Directors present Cash Talamantez & Jayde Atkins.

 

Von Svoboda moved to approve January 12, 2014 minutes and financial reports as presented, seconded by Ken Real.  Motion carried.

Tina Kessler gave an update on the judges clinic with Paul Cleveland held in Broken Bow.  Sonya and Jayde Atkins attended the clinic.

Tricia Schaffer reported on the mid-winter meeting held in West Virginia.

•Reined Cow Horse event has been added as approved event. It will be offered at nationals in 2015.  It will be a mandatory event with the option to have the reining cow horse event at least three times.  More event rules will be approved at the July annual meeting.

•PRCA is having a safety clinic at Curtis in March.

•Reminded everyone to not call national sponsors, if you have a problem, call your national director or national office. 

•New Rule - In cutting you will be allowed to change horses in the cutting event between performances.

•One time participants will be allowed to enter both days if rodeo is a 2 day rodeo.

Von Svoboda moved to pay Tricia Schaffer’s expenses in the amount of $1,240.31 for the mid winter meeting, seconded by Greg Petska.  Motion carried.

Discussion was held on having dance at state finals.  Student directors Cash Talmantez and Jayde Atkins would like to have volleyball tournament.  Suggested to have it in the cutting arena.  Cash and Jayde will organize the tournament.

Discussion was held on spring approvals. 

Tricia Schaffer and student directors will meet in North Platte on March 15th to discuss and select awards for state finals.  All directors are welcome to join them

2nd Reading of Insufficient Check Policy was read.  Justin Welsh moved to charge $25.00 for first insufficient check, on second insufficient check will result in cash only basis.  Entry fees must be paid to compete, seconded by Patty Finney.  Motion carried.

Discussion was held on updating by laws.  There was also discussion on combining the Jr High and High School  bylaws.  Von Svoboda moved that the Jr High association set up and maintain their own separate set of bylaws.

In old business, the national office would prefer that we move our state finals to be held earlier in June. 

Tricia Schaffer moved to adjourn, seconded by Von Svoboda.
