The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association held an adult director's meeting Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Arnold. The meeting was called to order and opened with a prayer. Board members present:   Ray Brown, Mark Cumpton, Doug Hinman, Dan Dailey, KC Schaak, Gordon Simonson, Cindy Vossler, Jim Wakefield, Jeff White and Tricia Schaffer. Student President Brandy Brown and student directors Dustin Dailey, Tyler Viers, and Rhett Nelson and secretary's Tara McKay and Becky Dailey. Members absent: Greg Petska and Justin Welsh.

It was moved to approve the minutes of the August 20, 2011 meeting as read.  The financial report and the financial report on the scholarship accounts was given. 

There was discussion on the national proposed rule changes.

It was suggested to have members wear back numbers at all times even after the performances.  Have them on from the time rodeo starts to when you go home.

It was moved to continue state finals for 2013-2014 in Hastings, and seconded.  Motion carried.  Discussion was held on the national office wanting us to move up our state finals dates. 

It was moved to table shooting sports policy until after mid-winter meeting, and seconded.  Shooting sports policy was tabled until the next meeting.

Discussion was held on having the winter banquet in Kearney.  It was moved to have the 2012 winter banquet in Kearney at the Younes Conference Center and seconded.

Student President Brandy Brown will check to see if Thedford is interested in having cowboy prom. 

Second reading on the following proposed rule changes.

1) It was moved to make it one attempt in bulldogging at state finals, and seconded.  Motion passed.

2)  It was moved to change judges at state finals every two years, and seconded.  Motion passed.

The board was informed about the judges clinics and reminded that the directors must attend a judges clinic at least once during their term.

Discussion was held on having a sponsorship coordinator on a commission basis.  They would be responsible for getting sponsorship for our association.  Will advertise in the Fence Post and on the website.

The current scholarship policies were reviewed with the board.  It was moved to leave the scholarship policy as is and seconded.  Motion passed.

Discussion was held on the pros and cons of the following rodeo magazines, Rodeo News and the Fence Post.  We will check on subscription rates with each magazine. 

Motto for 2012 is "Cowboy Pride-Be Proud to be a Cowboy"

It was suggested having mini clinics (timed event, rough stock, and girls events) after the Saturday performance at McCook and Burwell.  Will check with Trent Loose about doing a motivational talk at McCook.  The association would like to encourage the committees to contact NFR qualifiers in their area to attend their rodeo and speak to the members.

Discussion was held on state finals awards.  It was suggested giving spurs or something besides buckles for SF champions. 

It was suggested for the grand entry at state finals to introduce each class and do away with having themes.  Suggested to have the seniors wear their graduation caps and to have a reception for the seniors before the dance.

Reminder to send the athletic letters to the school counselors for recognition  in rodeo.

The board was informed that the UNL Rodeo Team will offer 2 $1500 scholarships.
