General Membership Meeting

June 20, 2013         Hastings

 

The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association held the general membership meeting Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Hastings.   President Jim Wakefield called the meeting to order.  Board members present: were Jess Harwager, Bump Kraeger, Justin Welsh, Ray Brown, Cindy Vossler, Jeff White, Greg Petska, KC Schaack, Patty Finney, Mark Cumpton, and Ken Real.   Tricia Schaffer and Secretary, Becky Dailey & Tina Kessler

 

Jason Mathis moved to approve minutes of the April 27, 2013, meeting as read, seconded by Gail Cunningham

 

Cheryl Talmantez moved to approve financial report, seconded by Stacey Cumpton.  Motion carried.

 

Discussion was held on number of calendars to have members sell.

 

Nominations for directors were Jay Hollenbeck, Von Svoboda, Sonya Atkins, Jim Wakefield, Mark Cumpton, Bryan Glendy, Jana Jensen, Paul Reiker, Cody Haun, Sam O’Conner, Jason Mathis, and Chad Schaack.  Lisa Kraeger moved nominations ceased, seconded by Kent Anders.  Motion passed.

 

Elected for 3 year term was Von Svoboda, Sonja Atkins, Jim Wakefield, and Jana Jenson.

Elected for 1 year term was Jay Hollenbeck and Cody Haun.

 

Comments from the floor

              Lin Gumb asked the board who is responsible for setting up order of events at the rodeos  

              Liz O’Conner reported on the cowboy prom held in Thedford and the one coming up in November held with the winter banquet.

              Sally Henderson suggested having adult members vote on adult directors in the way the student directors are voted on.

              Shiela Strand commended Tina Kessler on the website and how quick things are posted.

 

Dr. Justin Welsh DVM informed that PETA has applied for a booth at the state fair and reminded everyone to just walk away and refer them to Dr. Welsh DVM.

 

Tricia Schaffer commented on opportunities for members.  Encourage adults to encourage their children to participate in the programs that the National association offers, such as Equine of the Month and Athlete of the Month.

 

The Omaha River City Roundup Rodeo is having a 6 state challenge on September 28th.  One contestant in each event is invited they encourage to send event champions.
