NEHSRA Board of Directors Meeting
June 12, 2024 @ 3pm
Silver 4-H Building, Burwell NE Fairgrounds

Jason called the meeting to order at 3:38pm.  Directors in attendance were: Heather Kramer, Jeff Johnston, Adam Clark, Chris Pearson, Jamie Olson, Paul Heath, Cooper McBride, Levi Fisher, Jasper Fanning, Will Druery, Richard Schrunk and National Director Sharlene Buss.  

Jasper moved to approve the previous minutes.  Will seconded the motion.  All in favor, none opposed – Motion passed. 

A current financial report was given.  Jamie moved to approve the financial report, Richard second.  All in favor, none opposed – Motion passed.  Jasper made a motion to reimburse Sharlene for her expenses from the Mid-Winter meeting, along with reimbursement to Jason Ohm as he had paid out of pocket to secure BJ Jamison for the finals back number entertainment.  Will seconded the motion.  All in favor, none opposed – motion passed.  Jasper made a motion that the travel money per contestant for Nationals stay at $600.  Levi second.  All in favor, none opposed – motion passed.

NHSRA Crisis fund hard luck scholarship – Nominations: Jaden Fanning (12), Dawson Doggett (1)

Spirit Award Buckle – Nominations: Emily Leth (6), Elijah Stecki-Nelson (4)

Tesky’s Top hand Scholarship – Nominations: Cooper Fay (8), Ali Vaughn, Peyton Fisher, Kiely Walz, Laynee Ohm

Student President Scholarship – Cayson Johnston

BEX Sunglasses – Nominations: Libby Hegeman (10), Miles Anderson (2)

Former University of Kearney rodeo Club awarded to the top senior boy and top senior girl – Top AA senior boy/girl

Jamie presented discussion on the Reined Cowhorse being optional or mandatory.  Jasper moved to keep with option #2 (optional).  Chris second.  All in favor, none opposed – motion passed. 

Discussion was had regarding the points for Light Rifle, Trap and RCH.  Jamie and Paul will discuss further and make recommendations going forward.  A sub committee was formed to discuss and clarify some of the wording in the Nebraska rulebook.  

Fall rodeo approvals are due by July 1st.  Chris is in the process of confirming a one weekend cutting to do the early cuttings in one weekend.  He will finalize and get Jill the information to be posted.  In regards to splitting the arena for Steer Wrestling or not, the Steer Wrestling director will communicate with the committee on whether or not it should be done. 

Jasper moved to stay with Option #1 for the National Qualifier points system (this is currently what we use).  Richard seconded the motion.  All in favor, none opposed – motion passed.  

The National Director probation period is up.  There was a closed ballot done to vote on keeping the current National Director or opening it up for new applicants.  The closed ballot question was “Would you like to retain Sharlene Buss as the NeHSRA National Director?” 9-Yes, 3-No.  Sharlene will remain the National Director. 

Will moved to adjourn the meeting, Jasper seconded the motion.  All in favor, none opposed.  Meeting adjourned.
